Providing Mobility Advice and Support at the Yes You Can Travel Event

BACK TO NEWS

Travelling should be something everyone feels able to enjoy. For many people, however, concerns around mobility can make planning a holiday feel uncertain or overwhelming. That’s why events that focus on accessible travel are so valuable. They bring together specialists, organisations, and travellers in one place to share knowledge and offer guidance to help people feel confident about exploring the world again.

Recently, Mobility at Sea organised the "Yes You Can Travel and Adventure Drop-In Day" hosted by Denmead Grange Care Home alongside our sister company, Cavendish. The event created a welcoming space where the local community could have open conversations about travelling with mobility considerations, whether that meant taking a short break in the UK, flying abroad, or embarking on a cruise.

Rather than being a formal presentation or seminar, the drop-in day encouraged relaxed and friendly discussions. Moving between stands, meeting specialists, and able to ask questions about the practical side of travelling with mobility needs.

A Community Event Focused on Accessible Travel

The purpose of the event was simple: to show that travel remains possible and enjoyable, even when mobility needs change. Many people assume that travelling becomes difficult once mobility equipment is required, but with the right planning and support, holidays can still be incredibly rewarding.

At our stand, the team from Mobility at Sea and Cavendish spoke with visitors about the different ways mobility solutions can support travel. Conversations covered a wide range of topics, including what to expect at cruise ports and how mobility equipment can make exploring destinations more comfortable.

For some attendees, it was their first time asking questions about accessible travel. Others had travelled before but wanted reassurance about future holidays. In both cases, the event provided a helpful opportunity to discuss options in a relaxed environment.

Ali: My name is Ali and I am from Mobility at Sea. Mobility at Sea is a company that provides hire equipment to enable people to cruise or to take land-based holidays. We help people with additional needs and can offer equipment from a rollator right through to a profiling bed and everything in between.

Interviewer: What is the purpose of today's event?

Ali: Today's event is really important. It’s about bringing like-minded companies together... The whole ethos behind this is making sure our clients feel empowered to carry on doing what they love the most... There are no barriers to travel as such.

Conversations That Make Travel Feel Possible Again

One of the most valuable aspects of the day was simply talking with people about their experiences. Many guests shared stories about holidays they had taken in the past and destinations they hoped to visit again.

Often, the biggest barrier to travel is uncertainty. Questions about transport, accommodation, or accessibility can leave people unsure about where to start. By offering clear mobility advice and practical suggestions, the conversations helped turn those uncertainties into possibilities.

Some were interested in understanding how mobility equipment works when travelling, particularly when it comes to cruises. Others were curious about short UK breaks or accessible transport services. Each conversation was different, but they had the same aim: helping people to open up about any concerns and feel more confident about travelling.

Meeting Organisations That Support Accessible Travel

The Yes You Can Travel event also brought together a range of organisations that share a common goal: making travel and adventure more accessible for everyone.

Attendees had the opportunity to speak with representatives from several specialist organisations and partners, each offering different types of support.

Organisation What They Offer
Driving Miss Daisy Accessible transport services designed to support people travelling to appointments, outings, and holidays and are so much more than a just a transport provider.
Dementia Adventure Holiday experiences and outdoor activities tailored for people living with dementia and their families.
The Oxygen Store Specialise in oxygen equipment and advice for travellers who require respiratory support.
Fusion Holidays Travel planning support with a focus on accessible holiday experiences.
Disabled Holidays Accessible holiday specialists helping travellers find suitable destinations and accommodation both in the UK and Overseas
Wallops Wood Redefining a holiday retreat in Hampshire designed with accessibility and comfort in mind.

Having these organisations together in one place allowed visitors to explore a wide range of travel possibilities. From transport and accommodation to specialist travel planning, participants could see how different services work together to make accessible holidays possible.

A Welcoming Environment for Questions and Advice

One of the things that made the event particularly enjoyable was its friendly atmosphere. Everyone was encouraged to take their time, chat with exhibitors, and ask questions without feeling rushed.

For many visitors, it was reassuring to speak directly with people who work within the travel and mobility sector. Instead of searching for answers online, they could have real conversations about their individual needs and concerns.

Looking Ahead

Events like the Yes You Can Travel drop-in day play an important role in helping people rediscover the joy of travel.

Mobility at Sea is often described as the lynchpin between end users and travel professionals, so facilitating the event was a valuable opportunity to build collaborations that make the entire process easier. It also allowed us to meet members of the community, listen to their experiences, and gain a deeper understanding of the barriers they face when travelling.

Most importantly, the conversations throughout the day reinforced something we believe strongly: travel should be something everyone feels able to enjoy. With the right information, preparation, and support, adventures are still very much within reach.
